Arnold the Farm Pig
On December 12, 2021 we took in an additional 14 pigs. One of those pigs is a very large farm pig named Arnold. We don't know Arnold's age but he is guessed to be between 800 and 900lbs. He is very friendly and enjoys belly rubs.
Virginia 155 Pigs
On December 12, 2021 we took in an additional 13 mini pigs from an over population case in Orange, Virginia named the Virginia155. There are an additional 2 pigs that we will be going back for once they are ready. These pigs are not socialized with people but they are interested especially if you have food. All are currently on a special diet of veggies and pig specific grain to assist in weight loss. Our naming fundraiser was a success! Their names are Fat Albert, Chucky, Obelix, Mu Shu, Pua, Stimpy, Otto, Zim, Okkoto, Homer, Ed, Edd, Eddy, Porky, and Hamm.
Mini Pigs
Ava & Douglas came to Campfire Critters in June 2018 from a local family who could no longer care for them. Their ages and breeds are unknown. They are interested in people, but had little handling prior to living with us. These two cuties have made a lot of progress since joining us and have become very friendly and playful.
Gordan was found roaming the streets of north Gloucester and picked up by Gloucester Animal Control. After months in their care, the county deemed him "grumpy" and "unfriendly" so they chose to euthanize him. Thankfully, our friends at Animal Control asked us if we could give him a home instead. They dropped Gordan off to us in July of 2019. Since then he has bonded with Ava and Doug and become very sweet. He simply needed someone to give him a chance and thats what Campfire Critters is here for!
Winston joined us on April 18, 2020 from Isle of Wight Animal Shelter. Winston was born sometime in 2018 and was bounced between homes due to lack of training or proper handling. He ended up in the shelter because of "behavior issues" which is something we specialize in here at Campfire Critters so we offered to take him. Winston requires someone experienced with pigs as he is just as sweet as he is smart. He tests every person and every animal in which he comes into contact to see what he can get away with.
Shakira came to us on May 31, 2020. This was also the day she was scheduled to be killed by Animal Control because she was considered a "public safety problem". We are so thankful we were given the chance to rescue her and even more so since she was pregnant. Shakira gave birth on August 8th and we now have 7 beautiful piglets to care for as well. Although she still has a long way to go, Shakira is trusting us more and more every day. And she is the best momma to the cutest babies!
On December 8th, 2020 Miss Gretchen Maple was brought to us by the wonderful officers at Gloucester Animal Control. Gretchen was abandoned by her previous family so she was picked by Animal Control a few months prior. She is very sweet and trusting. Due to her large size, its was not likely for Gretchen to be adopted by another family and her time at the Animal Control facility was running out. We had been wanting to bring her home for a while but had to do a little rearranging so there was space. We finally did it and she is finally here!
Gretchen Maple is unique because she has a sweet smell, like maple syrup. This is a natural maple odor that can be found in certain pigs. We call her Marvelous Miss Maple!
